چکیده

This paper examines the power consumption of IEEE 802.11standards with distance variations. The effectiveness of each standard is analysed over a small wireless network. Experiments carried out to analyse power consumed by 802.11 standards show that energy consumed during transmission of data is higher than that consumed during reception. Results from experiments carried out show that the power consumption of 802.11n is more than that of 802.11b/g in both transmitting and receiving modes. The results also show that 802.11n standards are more effective especially for data transfer where it doubles the transfer rate of b/g in most cases. To achieve minimum power consumption, the appropriate data rate based on the available standard should be chosen for network implementation. However it is also observed that more power is consumed by the laptop by transmitting and receiving of packets.

Joint Allocation of Computational and Communication Resources to Improve Energy Efficiency in Cellular Networks

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is a new technology that has been developed to overcome the restrictions of smart mobile devices (e.g. battery, processing power, storage capacity, etc.) to send a part of the program (with complex computing) to the cloud server (CS). In this paper, we study a multi-cell with multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) system in which the cell-interior users request service...

Leveraging 802.11n frame aggregation to enhance QoS and power consumption in Wi-Fi networks

The Wi-Fi technology, driven by its tremendous success, is expanding into a wide variety of devices and applications. However, many of these new devices, like handheld devices, pose new challenges in terms of QoS and energy efficiency. In order to address these challenges, in this paper we study how the novel MAC aggregation mechanisms developed in the 802.11n standard can be used to enhance th...

Balancing energy efficiency and throughput fairness in IEEE 802.11 WLANs

The proliferation of wireless networks based on IEEE 802.11 has resulted in a heterogenous set of devices using a variety of applications to compete for the desired service performance. Most notably, the class of highly mobile and energy constrained devices is showing high growth rates. Yet, fairness of resource allocation is still only considered in terms of achievable throughput and without c...

Modified Power save Model for Better Energy Efficiency and Reduced Packet Latency

Devices constituting wireless ad-hoc networks generally operate in battery power, energy efficiency is a critical research issue. IEEE 802.11 Power Save Mode is a standard recommended for energy efficient operation of wireless ad-hoc networks. When there is no data to transfer, energy is still utilized by IEEE 802.11 PSM during the ATIM window. With this work, an attempt is made to address this...
